About the Authors

We are three clinical psychologists who met and began collaborating during graduate
school at UCLA in the 1970s (initially on a research project on clients'
perceptions of therapists' verbal responses). We all currently teach clinical
psychology research methods at our respective institutions (Barker and Pistrang at
University College London, and Elliott at the University of Toledo, Ohio) and we
have collaborated on this text and its predecessor over the years while maintaining
a sporadic transatlantic friendship. Some people conjecture, accurately, that Chris
Barker and Nancy Pistrang are a married couple. Here is a photograph of the three
of us in London in 2002 just after we finished the book (Robert Elliott is on the
right).
