Welcome to the support site for Flash 5 Interactivity & Scripting by Nigel Chapman

The main purpose of this site is to provide you with access to Flash movies (FLA files) for all the major examples in the book. In addition, some SWF files have been embedded in the pages so you can see what they do.

A list of known errors will also be maintained here.

Note that the site makes use of CSS stylesheets for positioning and formatting. It will not look at its best on anything less than a version 4 browser. And of course you will need the Flash5 Player/plug-in to see the SWF movies. On a Mac you may need to allocate extra memory to your browser to view the movies.

Downloads: Chapters 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8

You are encouraged to download the FLA files and study them in conjunction with the book. You may adapt the scripts in them to your own uses, but all the artwork is copyright and may not be published or used in any other Flash project or Web site without permission. Also, please take note of the following statemement.

Neither the author nor John Wiley & Sons, Ltd accept any responsibility or liability for loss or damage occasioned to any person or property through using the material, instructions, methods or ideas contained herein, or acting or refraining from acting as a result of such use. The author and Publisher expressly disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability or fitness for any particular purpose. There will be no duty on the author or Publisher to correct any errors or defects in the software.

You can download the entire set of examples in either Macintosh binhex format or Zip format, or you can use the links below to retrieve them by chapter and to view the embedded examples. Note that HTTP links have been used for the downloadable files; if any files open in your browser, you can save them to disk from there. Note also that if you click on any of the View in Browser buttons, a new window will open to show the SWF movie; close it when you have finished. Clicking on the thumbnail image of the book's cover on any page will bring you back to this one.

When you have downloaded the FLA files, use the Movie Explorer to find your way around the more complex examples.

If all you want is ready-to-use clips, look at Macromedia's Flash Exchange.
